Plant of South African origin, Latin name Aspalathus linearis, used to make a tea-like drink, of a red colour.
Usually used in the processed form (misnamed fermented), but sometimes as green rooibos.
A number of flavoured versions of rooibos have been created - including lemon, Earl Grey and vanilla.
Rooibos has many health benefits.
